POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general direction of the Laboratory Supervisor, this position will conduct laboratory analysis, instrument maintenance, instrument calibration and QA/QC compliance on the feedstock and products associated with a complex petroleum refinery. The incumbent will review analytical data and provide technical support to the production laboratory and act as a liaison between the blending, scheduling, testing and transportation functions of the department. This a full-time day shift position which includes rotating weekends and holidays.

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

• High School Diploma or equivalent required
• Bachelors Degree in chemistry or Science-Related Degree

EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

• 0-4 years\' experience in a chemical plant or refining laboratory preferred
• Demonstrated knowledge and or experience in using laboratory database systems and/or instrument operating software preferred.
• Demonstrated proficiency in a laboratory environment and compliance with all Environmental, Health & Safety policies
• Demonstrated knowledge of laboratory testing equipment including Gas Chromatography, X-Ray spectrometers and various other petroleum laboratory testing equipment
• Proficiency with Word and Excel is required
• Must have the ability to analyze data and issue reliable product status reports
• Good problem solving and analytical skills
• Excellent communication skills; both written and oral
• Ability to adjust work schedule to meet the needs of the business and address unexpected issues
• Fluent in English, both oral and written required

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES

• Perform chemical analysis and quality control testing in the Lab using accepted, published procedures
• Perform calibrations and standardizations to maintain quality in test results
• Maintain the QA/QC program, quality investigations as needed as well as any reports and recordkeeping needed tovalidate sample results

{=html} <!-- --> - Maintain product specifications and purchased material specifications - Perform special studies to support Operations and Process Engineers troubleshooting production problems - Review, update, and develop procedures and train Lab Technicians - Manage lab electronic reporting system and lab equipment repairs - Recommend and justify new lab equipment and systems - Provide support to ensure compliant operations required - May perform non-routine physical and chemical testing of products and processing materials - Interact with Area Supervisors, Unit Engineers or Unit Operators to help troubleshoot process problems - Adhere to safe work practices - Assist the Department Manager and Chief Chemist as needed
