POSITION SUMMARY: The Neonatal Nurse Practitioner (NNP) is responsible for coordinating the care of and the transportation of neonates from referring facilities. Must be educated in flight and ambulance treatment modalities, altitude physiology, general aircraft and ambulance safety, and emergency procedures. Utilizes advanced nursing process for assessment, diagnosis, planning and implementation and evaluation of patient care. They must document patient response to interventions and outcomes. AirLife collaborates with physicians, and referral teams in the planning and delivery of care. Uses advanced knowledge of pathophysiology and technical skills to provide management of the neonate in referral centers and on transport, including lab/x-ray interpretation, intubation, line placement, thoracentesis, thoracotomy, and intraosseous access. Delegates appropriately to other team members. Demonstrates advanced leadership abilities through nursing judgment, decision making and problem solving skills. Acts as an advocate for clients/family members and the referral team. Maintains a professional demeanor through conduct, appearance and communication.
