Summary About the position: This position will be assigned to the Eglin Aero Club. Must have FAA to perform aircraft inspections. Responsibilities Responsible for the total airworthiness of Aero Club aircraft. Plans, organizes and directs task as required. Assures task are completed within the require time frames and reviews the work of aircraft mechanics to ensure completion. Troubleshoots and determines when the nature and scope of repair can be handled personally or should involve other mechanics; and coordinates their work as necessary. Serves as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudralic repairs to Aero Club aircraft. As necessary, grounds the aircraft when the severity of a malfunction warrants, and may be responsible for releasing the aircraft to service after repairs are completed. Performs aircraft inspections including pre-flight, post-flight, phase, and other scheduled and unscheduled inspections. Tests and checks or oversees such actions by others, with test equipment and standards. Uses all tools of the trade, test equipment, test stands, power sources, cockpit instruments, gauges, and controls in performing assigned duties. Checks all functional and support systems, assess pilot comments, operates the engine(s), and may taxi aircraft. Inspects major system components and parts for defects, serviceability, and proper installation using technical manual and following appropriate inspection procedures. Conducts functional and operational tests and repairs/modifications to ensure proper operation. Attends pre-inspection meetings and coordinates with other functional representatives and offices to insure that scheduled inspections are complete. Diagnoses and identifies probable locations of malfunctions from the cockpit during engine run-up. Progressively engages or turns on all systems operated by cockpit controls. Reads data and settings from cockpit and instruments and gauges, referring to technical manuals, procedures, schematics, and other technical guidelines. Notes functioning and directs or makes adjustments and repairs that are required. Debriefs pilots to determine in-flight malfunctions and trouble shoots systems to correct defects. May taxi aircraft during run-up. Initiates requests for unscheduled tools, equipment, and materials identified during preparation for flight. Maintain records of maintenance inspections performed on assigned aircraft as required. Inspects maintenance record entries made by aircraft mechanics to ensure records are accurate and timely. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work area. Uses and assures proper fit of required safety equipment and clothing. Follows federal and State rules when storing, using, handling, labeling and disposing of hazardous materials and waste in accordance with environmental standards. Performs clean-up duties such as cleaning equipment, sweeping, straightening, and lining u tools in the assigned area. Instructs Airframe and Powerplant School. Instructs a complete airframe and powerplant certification course. Develops lesson plans based on course requirements. Evaluates student progress. Administers oral and practical exams to students in accordance with FAA guidelines leading to A&P certification. Must be able to read, write and speak English. Must have skill in dealing with the public. Must have a valid motor vehicle operator's license. Must be able to pass a physical no later than 60 days after date of employment, Must be able to satisfactorily complete a National Agency Check w/Inquires (NACI).
