Northrop Grumman Space Components Business Unit is seeking a Design Engineer to join our team.
This position may be located in either San Diego, CA or (Salt Lake City) Magna, UT.
This position may be filled as a Principal Mechanical Enginer level 3 or a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer level 4.
Role and Responsibilities:
Designs flat laminates, molded laminates, sandwich panels, machining files, metal details, assemblies, and other parts for aircraft and spacecraft components
Investigates pertinent design factors such as ease of manufacture, availability of materials and equipment, interchangeability, strength, contractual specification requirements, and cost
Contributes to the design of major components or major portions of a functional system to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations
Utilizes computer-aided design (CAD) equipment, develops basic data, completes preliminary analysis for material sizing, and makes preliminary layouts, sketches and notes necessary to present design proposals and/or concepts to internal and external customers
Creates layouts and drawings of complex assemblies and details parts of devices, mechanisms, and structures
Checks completed layouts and drawings for clarity, completeness, conformity to standards, procedures, specifications, and accuracy of calculations and dimensioning
Identifies design errors, omissions, and other deficiencies, and recommends revisions and/or improvements in design layout to fellow responsible engineers or designers
Works with internal and external customers and suppliers to support the design and procurement process
Supports development of technical solutions to complex problems which require regular use of ingenuity and creativity
Applies current technology and aids in the development of new technologies
Interacts with senior internal and external personnel on technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations
Basic Qualifications for a Principal Mechanical Engineer:
BS degree in STEM (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred) and 5 years related experience or,
MS degree in STEM (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred) and 3 years related experience
Design experience required/ tool design experience a plus
CAD solid modeling (experience with NX a plus) and drafting experience required
Knowledge and experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Basic Qualifications for a Senior Principal Mechanical Engineer:
BS degree in STEM (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred) and 9 years related experience or,
MS degree in STEM (Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering preferred) and 7 years related experience
Design experience required/ tool design experience a plus
CAD solid modeling (experience with NX a plus) and drafting experience required
Knowledge and experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Preferred Skills & Qualifications:
MS in Mechanical Engineering or Aerospace Engineering
Knowledge of composite materials manufacturing processes
Experience with Siemens NX 1946 and Teamcenter
Experienced with MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Strong written and oral communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to clearly present technical information
Strong customer service skills
Ability to work in a fast-paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team
Salary Range: $82,000.00 - $142,400.00Salary Range 2: $101,600.00 - $176,500.00
Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives.
