Position Description\ The RAND Corporation\'s Office of External Affairs is growing its development communications team and has an exciting opportunity for a communications professional to utilize their talents to support RAND\'s mission to help improve policy and decisionmaking through research and analysis.
Working within the Corporate Communications and Branding group, the development communicator will part of a small but dynamic team and will play a critical role in ensuring RAND deepens philanthropic support and donor engagement and meets it\'s fundraising goals.
The position will work approximately 20 hours per week and the primary duties of a development communicator include but are not limited to: content creation for more complex print and digital products such as articles, donor-focused messages and solicitations, invitations, newsletters, reports, social media posts, and more. Additionally, the development communicator will help restructure or re-write advanced content provided by and to the development team, providing copyediting and proofreading to ensure clear messaging and consistent voice. This role also provides communications counsel and other support to internal partners on strategic approaches to fundraising communications.
Successful candidates will demonstrate the highest level of skill in writing, copyediting and possess at least three years of prior writing/editorial experience.Successful candidates will also demonstrate an aptitude for working independently, the ability to simultaneously focus on the smallest details and the bigger picture, and excellent organizational and time-management skills, including the ability to work at a brisk pace and meet vigorous, concurrent deadlines across multiple projects.
Qualifications\ Required
Demonstrated superior writing, copyediting, proofreading, and general communication skills
Excellent interpersonal skills along with the ability to work and troubleshoot independently
Proven ability to be successful in a deadline-oriented and collaborative environment
Demonstrated ability to juggle multiple tasks with a high level of attention to detail while remaining organized
Advanced knowledge of commonly used style guides (e.g.,The Chicago Manual of Style)
Superior skills and knowledge of Microsoft Word (including templates and paragraph styles), as well as Excel and PowerPoint
Advanced knowledge of Mac or Windows operating systems
Preferred
Demonstrated interest in and familiarity with U.S. and international public policy
Previous experience collaborating with teams responsible for fundraising and
Interest in design and visualization of content
Education\ Bachelors degree in English, communications, or a related discipline is required.
Experience\ Minimum of 6 years of writing, copyediting, and proofreading or related experience.
Location\ This position will be located at one of the following RAND offices: Arlington, Va.; Pittsburgh, Pa.; Boston, Ma; or Santa Monica, Calif. This position is eligible for RAND\'s hybrid work environment, which enables a blend of on-site and remote work. Some on-site presence will be required to meet business needs, including on an ad-hoc basis; on-site needs will vary from month to month.
Special Note\ At least two writing samples that demonstrate the candidate\'s writing and copyediting are required to be considered for this position.These samplesshould be products that reflect solely their own work.
Salary Range\ \$39.47 - \$58.70
