Overview
CHI Health St. Francis was established in Grand Island, Nebraska in 1887. Today our hospital is a regional referral center with more than 100 physicians and more than 1100 employees working together to build a healthier community. Our goal is to provide patients with high-quality medical care close to home where they can be supported by their family friends and community.
Family Birth Center at St. Francis Medical Center is a 15 Labor Delivery Recover and Postpartum Unit (single room maternity care). We are a Level II Perinatal Center and care for patients from antepartum, labor, deliver and postpartum including providing mother-baby care.
Responsibilities
Assists in the admission, discharge, and transfer process as directed by the RN. Takes patient age, physical abilities, and/or developmental needs into account when communicating patient needs.
Sets up tables, instruments, and supplies required for cesarean sections, vaginal deliveries, and circumcisions. Maintins stérile technique.
Responds to patient calls, anticipates patient needs, and assures patient safety and comfort through regular rounds, environmental maintenance and other appropriate safety measures. Bases care on patients’ age, physical abilities, and/or developmental needs into account when communicating patient needs.
Assists in the preparation and draping of patient and operative area. Prepares, passes, and maintains a correct count of instruments, sutures, sponges, and supplies utilized during the operative procedure.
Assumes responsibility for personal and professional growth through participation in unit meetings, in-service programs, continuing education programs and fulfills yearly requirements as stated by policy. Assists in the orientation of new staff and participates in unit Quality Improvement activities.
Complies with internal and external regulations, policies, and procedures. Participates in achieving nursing division goals and supports the Shared Governance structure. Participates in all safety, security and infection control programs that are mandatory as well as those required and provided by the department. Demonstrates work practices consistent with Common Spirit Health and department-specific safety, security and infection control policies.
Records vital signs and intake and output when requested into the patient record and/or computer. Reports any changes observed in the condition or behavior of patients and any unusual incidents/problems.
Performs nursing procedures which do not require the skill/knowledge or judgment of a licensed professional and which may be safely delegated in accordance with nursing policies and procedures, i.e.; patient baths, bed making, application of ice bags and ambulatory patients.
Establishes and maintains professional interpersonal relationships with patients, visitors, and other hospital personnel while assuring confidentiality of patient information. Offer to assist co-workers and all team members to complete work assignments. Demonstrates the ability to perform in an accurate and precise manner in crisis and emergency situations.
Covers call shifts as defined by unit and policy.
Knowledgeable on order entry skills, and chart assembly. Skilled in phone, call light and paging functions.
Acknowledges the value of multicultural traditions and demonstrates this when caring for clients. Must have the ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a diverse and multicultural environment.
Qualifications
Education:
-Successfully complete a minimum of 75 hours of CNA training approved by the State of Nebraska
Licenses & Certifications:
-Active certification as a CNA
Basic Life Support through American Heart Association
