Job Description

AECOM is seeking a Civil Engineer that is focused on land development to be based in Grand Rapids, MI or Detroit, MI.

This position is expected to begin in June 2023.

The responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:

• Computer­-aided design and drafting of site layout, roadway, grading, and utility systems using tools including, but not limited to AutoCAD Civil3D.

• Assists in report preparation, site reconnaissance, and communications with the AECOM project team.

• Reviews regulations and standards necessary to carry out project design and permitting work.

• Analyze reports, maps, drawings, tests, and other topographical and geologic data to plan and design projects.

• Incorporates schedules, budgets and project criteria into civil design and layouts.

• Conducts site visits at active construction sites to examine field conditions, site work that is under construction, site utilities, sediment, and erosion control inspections, as built conditions.

• Works closely with the project team, including civil, geotechnical, traffic engineers, architects, electrical engineers, plumbing engineers, fire protection engineers, and surveyors to provide value to each project.

• Works under supervision of Project Manager or Senior Civil Engineer.

• Exercises judgement limited to developing details of work in making preliminary decisions and material selections, and adaptations of engineering alternatives.

• Utilizes standard techniques, procedures, and criteria while gaining understanding of advanced methods.

Qualifications

Minimum Requirements:

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field.

• Valid U.S. Driver’s License.

• US Citizenship is required due to the nature of the work.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Strong working experience with AutoCAD Civil 3D.

• Experience in design and permitting of site utilities including water, sanitary sewer and storm drainage or demonstrated equivalency of experience/education.

• Experience working on city / county infrastructure such as: public watermain and sewer improvements and/or road commission/department of public works storm sewer and road improvements.

• Experience working on land development projects with multiple utilities including domestic water supply and distribution, fire water, gravity sanitary sewer, pressure sanitary force mains, process wastewater, fiber and telecommunications, storm drainage piping and retention/detention systems design.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (Word, Excel, Outlook).

• Strong organizational, technical, and communications skills.

• Michigan work experience is preferred.
