Compensation Overview

The annual base salary range provided for this position is a nationwide market range and represents a broad range of salaries for this role across the country. The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.

Salary Range

$126,200.00 - $208,300.00

What Is the Opportunity?

As Director, Compensation, you will provide compensation consultation on the implementation of Travelers' compensation philosophy and practices to ensure both internal and external competitiveness. You will serve as a collaborative business consultant and compensation subject matter expert for assigned business groups and partner with Human Resources Business Partners (HRBPs), business leaders, and other HR functional experts on compensation related issues in support of HR's mission to deliver a market-leading employee experience that drives superior business performance.

This position may be based 100% remotely or in one of our offices.

What Will You Do?

  • Act as a collaborative business consultant and compensation subject matter expert for HRBPs and business partners.

  • Leverage knowledge of supported business groups including business operations, strategy, key roles and career paths, and market pay practices to ensure business practices align with compensation strategies and philosophy, compensation best practices, and Travelers’ enterprise practices.

  • Create ad-hoc analysis and reporting to address business issues and make recommendations for action based on insights. Develop and consult on complex offers and job content design (job evaluation, leveling, pricing, benchmarking, descriptions, etc.).

  • In support of the Travelers’ Annual Compensation Planning process, own and drive survey submission and benchmarking, labor market analysis, compensation strategy, management reporting, ad hoc review/analysis, salary budgeting, and bonus/equity pool modeling. Analyze compensation planning data, identify trends, and make appropriate recommendations. Partner closely with the most senior level HRBPs and business leaders throughout the process.

  • As a leader on the Compensation team, proactively identify, recommend, and implement enhancements to compensation processes and practices. Participate in or lead broad scope compensation team initiatives and projects, considering the broader enterprise impact.

  • Ensure HRBPs and managers understand the Travelers' compensation philosophy to effectively make and communicate compensation recommendations.

  • Proactively partner with other HR functional areas (Talent Acquisition, Employee Relations, Legal, People Analytics, Talent Management, etc.) to ensure compensation practices align with broader strategies and initiatives.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent, with course work in business administration and/or human resources.

  • 8 or more years of Compensation/Human Resources experience, with experience and knowledge of market analysis, pay structures, compensation compliance laws/requirements and variable compensation, and equity plans.

  • Strong analytical, problem solving, influencing, communication, and project management skills.

  • Ability to proactively identify issues, analyze data, and make recommendations.

  • Strong customer orientation.

  • Ability to balance timeliness and accuracy.

  • Excel, Word, Power point, and related software skills.

What is a Must Have?

  • 5 years of experience working in compensation, human resources, or analytical field such as finance or accounting.
