Lane County Community Health Centers is HIRING an Intern!

$15.00 / hour

In alignment with Lane County's Strategic Plan, and to improve recruitment, selection, retention, and advancement of underrepresented groups in Lane County, the following internship will be offered to Lane County residents, undergraduate, and graduate students with particular emphasis on providing pathways for historically underrepresented individuals to professional careers at Lane County. Historically underrepresented groups may include, but are not limited to: first generation college students, low-income students, students who identify as LGBTQ+, students of color, veterans, and students with disabilities.

About the Internship

The Communtiy Health Centers of Lane County seeks an intern to shadow different medical providers at the CHC while working with medical support statt to gain a deeper understanding of the work we do while learnig valuable hands on skills like checking blod pressure and vital signs. The intern will also work on collaborative reasearch and writing projects while working as part of a team interacting directly wit hthe diverse patient population we serve at the CHC.

Lane County's Internship Program focuses on recruiting, supervising, and mentoring exceptional interns who will spend time working on projects, systems, and processes. It fosters an understanding of the many occupations and career paths available in local government. You'll have the chance to make a difference in your community while gaining valuable experience, and making professional connections throughout the organization.

About the Division

The Community Health Centers have been providing quality primary care and behavioral health services to the citizens of Lane County since 2004. We provide a broad array of services to adults and children in an outpatient setting. The CHC’s are a primary source of health care for uninsured and underinsured individuals. Our clinics are Federally Qualified Health Centers whose mission is to serve the community by offering excellent care and eliminating barriers to healthcare.

Schedule: This position will work 10 hours a week between the hours of Monday - Friday; 8:00am - 5:00pm.

This is a non-represented position

*Extra Help employees may work up to a maximum of 520 hours per fiscal year beginning July 1, 2022 and ending June 30, 2022.



  • Strong desire to pursue a career in medicine

  • Come from underrepresented community/ies including first generation college students, BIPOC, and/or LGBTQ2S students

  • Basic computer, reading and writing skills

  • Passion for health equity

  • In your cover letter, describe how your education and/or life experience make you a good candidate for the CHC internship


  • This project will involve a flexible schedule shadowing different medical providers at the CHC, working with med support staff to learn hands on skills like checking blood pressure and vital signs, and some collaborative research or writing project

  • Working as part of a team and interacting directly with the diverse patient population at the CHC

  • Expectation to design a manageable internship schedule with your supervisor and commit to your shifts, or communicate if you are unable to attend

  • Perform some administrative or research support including compiling data, laying out and organizing materials
