Job Summary

Under the direction of the Director of Platform Computing, supervises and coordinates activities of staff operating computers and peripheral equipment. Assigns and assists staff; schedules work to execute projects; completes service requests; responds to incidents and meets service level agreements related to platform computing. Directs training and/or trains workers to operate computer and peripheral equipment.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND OTHER CHARACTERISTICS

Knowledge of trouble-shooting responsibilities and tasks associated with the IBM zSeries mainframe computer with attached printing. Knowledge of peripheral equipment such as high speed digital printers, folders, inserters and/or binders. Knowledge in the use and operation of local area network minicomputers, mainframes, personal computers (PC) and related hardware and software. Skill in the basic use, installation and application of such equipment. Ability to learn rapidly and retain any new changes to the environment and to utilize the information to its best advantage. Ability to establish and maintain satisfactory relationships with department officials, subordinates and outside areas. Ability to work in an area where techniques and procedures are standardized, but where frequent adaptation and independent decisions are required. Skill and knowledge in performing queries, extracting information and manipulating data. Ability to communicate effectively, prepare reports and use sound judgment in interpreting problems and issues related to work assignment. Ability to supervise and assist users in computer-based work activities.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Possession of a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) certificate SUPPLEMENTED WITH six (6) years of full-time experience working with a mainframe with attached printingis required.

    -OR-

  • Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree SUPPLEMENTED WITH two (2) years of full-time experience working with a mainframe with attached printingis required.

  • Must be able to lift a minimum of thirty (30) poundsis required.

  • Must be available to work 24/7 on weekends and holidays as assigned is required.

    Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with IBM zSeries servers.

  • Experience with IBM iSeries servers.
