Summary

The primary responsibility of the Supplier Development Manager is to work closely with stakeholders (e.g., Procurement, Quality, Commercial, Operations, Sourcing) to manage and develop relationships with new and existing key suppliers. This individual deploys the supplier improvement process to engage with key suppliers, develop performance improvement plans and works with internal and external stakeholders to drive closure of actions to achieve the performance targets.

Responsibilities

Leads visits at key supplier sites to diagnose performance issues, and coordinate improvement activates inclusive of Kaizen events, process improvements and quality system improvements Identify supplier improvement and risk mitigation opportunities at key supplier sites and manage these improvement activities Partner with Procurement, Quality, and Operations stakeholders to create supplier development plans for selected critical suppliers focused on quality, delivery, capacity, and supplier process capability Drive execution of supplier performance improvement plans and interface with internal and external partners to collaboratively pursue solutions and closure of action plans Perform gap analysis between specifications, methods and equipment at Suppliers and plants and mitigate those gaps to proactively reduce future deviations and supply issues; due to misalignment or other causes Provide regular feedback to relevant operating committees on progress with suppliers and internal team improvement plans Prepare and report out on Supplier improvement metrics to the steering committee and stakeholders to demonstrate impact of engagement process. Effectively communicates to internal and external groups, facilitating appropriate escalation Drive continuous improvement of supplier’s operations, quality, cycle, and delivery performance through Six Sigma tools Coaches, mentors, develops and at times leads training on methods & processes Plan & implement document creation, retention, format & distribution programs meeting all regulatory (e.g., GMP, ISO), other requirements Establish and maintain supplier performance metrics (cost, delivery, service, quality, innovation, social responsibility) together with the sourcing team Working with Commerical, Supply Chain and Suppliers partners Plan, coordinate and deliver multiple workstreams that put in place the key building blocks for a tiered Supplier management strategy that supports Supply Chain optimization – i.e, such as, but not limited to do, documented and agreed contracts, freight, incoterms, lead-times, service level agreements, performance metrics/reviews, electronic trading interfaces and transaction flow, MOQs and delivery quality Lead improvement projects across the organization to align business processes, ensure common process for customers, drive QMS efficiency, and to produce consistent predictable results for Customers Build and lead a team capable of converting a defined service offering into a buildable and scalable set of operational competencies Establish plans of record and capability roadmaps, providing the product management team with direction on operational possibilities Build out a global organization with central controls, capability development and oversight

Requirements

BS or BA Degree in Supply Chain, Logistics, Engineering or other related business field required MBA preferred Lean, Six Sigma and validation activities; philosophy, concepts, and tools of Operations, Quality Management/ Engineering, with training and experience in Six Sigma Transactional Process Design/Improvement Methodology preferred Lean Leader certification a plus. Knowledgeable of PPAP, APQP, SPC, FMEA, 8D, Control Plan formation and a variety of manufacturing processes Experience working in a regulated environment Minimum 5+ years supply chain management work experience Minimum 3+ years of project management experience leading targeted and scoped business projects with reportable outcomes Exceptional change management experience ranging across all levels of an organization Ability to develop and improve engagement processes and programs Must possess excellent verbal and written communication skills including ability to make clear and concise presentations Strong influencing, collaboration and relationship-building skills both internally and externally with suppliers preferred Experience managing cross functional teams and working in a matrix environment preferred Working knowledge of manufacturing, services and supply chain operations preferred Experience managing Operations, Procurement or Quality projects with supplier facing communications preferred Experience managing multiple priorities/projects simultaneously to meet established deadlines preferred Exposure to latest development and business models (ex: OA) preferred
