Description
POLITICO is seeking an ambitious and enterprising reporter to cover defense and serve as the lead author of Morning Defense, our agenda-setting daily newsletter.
POLITICO’s Defense team digs into consequential issues across a wide range of areas at the intersection of weapons, warfare, politics and policy. We’re looking for a reporter with a deep interest in how the Defense Department enacts policies that affect budgets, big-ticket weapons acquisitions and America’s commitments abroad.
The successful candidate will have a track record of delivering scoops and enterprise reporting in a fast-paced daily newsroom. Helming Morning Defense means setting the tone and writing authoritatively on a variety of issues — and editing the work of others who contribute — for a highly influential audience. This position also includes ample opportunity to write news and enterprise stories that appear across all of POLITICO’s platforms — from newsy dispatches for subscribers to enterprise stories for POLITICO’s home page to other newsletters — both in the U.S. and in Europe.
What You’ll Need:
At least two years of experience working as a reporter in a daily newsroom.
Excellent news judgment and a deep understanding of how the Defense Department and Congress operate.
The desire to work closely and collaboratively with colleagues throughout the company.
A track record of delivering scoops and enterprise on a beat. (Please submit at least 4-6 clips in your application along with your resume and cover letter.)
