As ADAS Motion Control Algorithm Engineer you will develop and maintain software for vehicle perception using various sensor input devices including Cameras, LIDAR, RADAR, ultrasonic, GPS, IMU and others on Vehicle CAN. You will be responsible for various motion planning and control tasks such as developing algorithms for lane centering, adaptive cruise control, automatic emergency braking, lane departure warning, blind spot detections, cross traffic alerts etc.

Remote work opportunity but candidates must reside within the state of Michigan, Oklahoma, or Texas and be willing to work onsite at one of our locations occasionally as needed to be considered

  • Research, design, simulate, specify, implement, debug, and test the control and estimation algorithms for autonomous driving applications with longitudinal and lateral motion planning.

  • Develop, maintain, and deliver quality control software for ADAS features.

  • Develop unit test cases and simulation test cases for validation of developed software in compliance with ISO26262.

  • Work collaboratively with responsible electrical, mechanical, and firmware engineers to define sensing requirements, establish control system capabilities, and set targets

  • Advance Canoo’s intellectual Property (IP) in control systems

Required Experience

  • MS/PhD in ME, EE, Controls Engineering, Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • 3-5 Years of experience in automotive industry deploying control algorithms for ADAS applications

  • Familiarity with classical control theory, optimal controls, observers, regulators, state-space, dynamic and kinematic models

  • Demonstrate proficiency in a position requiring engineering technical excellence

  • Good communication skills, high level of interpersonal skills, self-motivated, comfortable operating without direct supervision

  • Model development and data analysis in Matlab/Simulink

  • Experience working with lateral control algorithms such as LQR, MPC, Stanley, Pure Pursuit, etc. and with longitudinal control algorithms such as MPC, PID, LQR, LQG etc.

  • Experience in at least one of: robotics research in motion planning and control, systems analysis, stability, or controller design

  • Experience, understanding, and intuition for the physics of basic electric propulsion and motion control systems

  • Programming ability in C, C++, or Python

    Preferred Experience

  • Experience with Machine Learning, Deep Neural Networks, data processing and perception

  • Professional experience in embedded software and hardware integration for complex electronic devices

  • Experience in Design and Development of Safety Critical Systems and Components

  • Experience in automotive network protocols such as CAN and Ethernet

  • Familiar with Operating Systems concepts AUTOSAR, embedded Linux, functional safety, and ISO 26262

  • Experience with automotive electronic modules and sensors

Travel Requirements

  • Rare visits to Torrance, CA, or Tulsa, OK, or Auburn Hills, MI might be required for a few weekdays

  • Fast Internet connection to support videoconferencing is mandatory.
