Office Manager – TEACCH Autism Program – TEACCH Charlotte
Position Summary: This position is assigned to Charlotte, NC TEACCH Center. The primary purpose of this position is to manage the clients (patients) coming into the clinic. Front Desk Activities include, the role of Clinical Intake Coordinator (responsible for referral process), as well as the specific system activities required for insurance billing. This position also has primary responsibility for managing the referral process to ensure it is successfully completed, providing general clerical and administrative support to the Clinical Director, and other clinical staff, including maintenance of hard charts for clients and support for the training program.
About the TEACCH Autism Program: The TEACCH Autism Program began in 1972 as a system of university-based regional centers to serve children, adolescents and adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder and their families. As part of the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, the program has an active clinical, teaching, and research program. TEACCH operates seven community regional clinics across the state. Each center offers a set of core services along with unique demonstration programs meeting the needs of individuals with ASD, their families, and professionals across the state of North Carolina. Also part of TEACCH are the Carolina Living and Learning Center, a residential/vocational training facility for autistic adults as well as a Supported Employment program providing Job Coaching and related services to adults on the spectrum.
TEACCH is part of the North Carolina Area Health Education Centers (AHEC) program and faculty are actively involved in student and professional training activities within the state, nation, and across the world. All TEACCH programs are coordinated through a central administration and research unit in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. TEACCH provides clinical services such as diagnostic evaluations, parent training and parent support groups, social play and recreation groups, individual counseling for individuals with ASD and supported employment. In addition, TEACCH conducts training nationally and internationally and provides consultation for teachers, residential care providers, and other professionals from a variety of disciplines. Research activities include psychological, educational, and biomedical studies. This position is located in our TEACCH Clinic in Charlotte, NC.
Minimum education & experience: High school diploma or equivalency and one year of related office experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience.
Required qualifications, competencies, and experience: Office administration experience is required. Demonstrated ability with Word, Excel and other computer applications is required. Demonstrated accuracy/attention to detail is required. Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills as well as interpersonal skills required. Demonstrated ability to prioritize and manage multiple priorities required.
Demonstrated customer service skills required. Demonstrated ability to problem-solve both unusual and routine issues required. Demonstrated experience with coordinating events or meetings is required.
Preferred qualifications, competencies, and experience: A bachelor’s degree in business, communications, healthcare management or a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience, or demonstrated possession of the competencies necessary to perform the work. Preference for medical/behavioral health office experience. Bilingual in Spanish highly desirable.
